“Good teachers will do anything to make sure that students’ needs are met—all of them.
Since For Kids & Country started we have been blessed to have teachers from across America reach out to us to share their stories, show support for our cause, and volunteer to mentor other teachers looking to leave their unions.
One of those fantastic teachers is Joe Ocol, who serves children in Chicago Public Schools. One of his students was shot dead in the streets years ago, so Joseph provides an after school chess club to keep kids safe and challenge their minds.
He has bravely fought the union, often alone. He’s crossed the Chicago picket line – to be with his students – every time they’ve had strikes. His “union” ostracizes and harasses him for putting kids ahead of union power.
Joe recently made news when the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) voted to move their schools to remote learning again. The school district and community were not prepared for what CTU voted to implement without their consent.
Joe also has cancer, and needs your prayers. His bravery is well noted on this episode of Tucker Carlson Tonight. In fact, Tucker said he was going to cry when Joe said, “I still have a role to play right now. I just want to make my life relevant. The thought I can still be of service to students, and I can touch their lives and make a difference in their lives.”
We are so proud of Joe and every good teacher who does the right thing for students. We thank Joe for his bravery and for being an example of leadership for kids and country. Please take a few moments to watch the video and share with others.
