Our Heavenly Promise Keeper
Date: August 24, 2021
The phrase “Promise Keeper” has kept coming to mind recently. This is one of many claims the word of God gives to us as to who He is. We are the blessed recipients of His claims. There are not too many entities in this world that can boast with such authority and truth. And it seems as if the more time passes the more this holds true!
Current events these days seem like a really bad dream, one which seems to be never-ending. You know the kind…when you finally wake up with your heart throbbing in your chest and your mind reeling…yet you quickly realize in that moment that it was only a dream, thank God! Sadly, we are not waking up from this one!
Although I may sound all doom and gloom, I promise there is always hope through our one and only Promise Keeper! Naturally we all wish we would wake up tomorrow, and these last few years would only be one big bad dream, with all the evil, division, confusion and chaos over! Gone!
However, that’s not the case…for now…
But may they be like the sun when it rises in its strength.
Let’s take this powerful verse apart a little bit. As we look to the sun rising morning after morning, year after year, decade after decade, we take its majestic power for granted. The sun is a daily commitment and consistent reminder straight from heaven that the Lord controls the universe. As it slowly rises in the atmosphere with its sudden burst of light, it’s our daily faithful reminder of a new day. And as it appears in all its strength and glory, scripture tells us that we who love Him can wake up to new strength, a new light, a new day dawning. As sure as the sun rises so does our strength. It is His word of honor!
The same God who faithfully calls such a dynamic, masterful and brilliant sunrise each day is the same God who faithfully greets us every morning. It’s His “Good morning, child of mine” greeting. It’s as if He is saying, “Look up son or daughter. I am still here. I am still faithful, and I am your Promise Keeper.”
What a comfort to know and recognize our God is one hundred percent dependable. He never gives us what we need for tomorrow today. The strength He bestows upon us is for today’s agenda only. Then when we rise tomorrow it begins fresh and new all over again! We must be careful not to look down the road in fear of what’s ahead. We must not obsess over tomorrow, next month, or next year. When we rise let’s peek outside our windows and let the horizon remind us of His loyalty to us. May we be a grateful people for His daily reassurance that the sun WILL rise and it WILL set at His command!
At one point in the book of Judges when all is looking bleak, Gideon asks this question: “If the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us? Where are all the wonders that our fathers told us about?” If you are asking yourself this question today, take heart, for many before us have passed through similar waters and the Lord gave them what they needed for that moment in time. He promised them and He promises us! He is faithful to accomplish His works and by His commands and foreknowledge we can rest knowing the sun will rise tomorrow! In its brilliance we once again will be strengthened and provided for. His goodness will be multiplied!
I imagine what terrified Gideon is somewhat similar to the fears we encounter today. However, let us remind ourselves that he did in fact wake up to a new dawn, a new day, just as we do! God brought him victory even when it seemed all too impossible! Isn’t that who God is, the inventor of miracles, both tremendous and small? Miracles come in all shapes and sizes. Let us not overlook the tiny ones. Not all of them part the sea!
I experienced one of those smaller miracles this last week. Our governor has established a new school mandate this year. No longer will previous medical exemptions regarding school vaccinations be accepted in any public or private school. Doctors are now extremely restricted in how many they can issue. California has one of the largest communities of medical vaccination exemptions for school-aged children. Sadly, it was necessary for one of my granddaughters to be issued one a few years back for health reasons. This new legislation sent my daughter and many other parents scrambling at the uncertainty they faced. The idea that parents have no right over their own child is really quite frightening!
My daughter had one last option…with just a few days before school was to start my daughter went to plead her case before her pediatrician. He not only agreed to signing the medical exemption (which was only the second one he had ever issued in his career), but it had to be submitted to the government and approved by them. I never knew the government to move so fast…the very next day it came back stamped and approved. Just in time for school to begin four days later!
My daughter insisted through her faith in God that He would provide a way. He not only answered our prayers for providing a way…He did even better! We imagined this issue would have to be revisited at the beginning of every new school year, however to our delight the exemption is good for four years!
My daughter can now rest knowing her battle has been won for the time being. To some this may seem like a small victory but to my daughter it was a miracle straight from her Promise Keeper. She went to sleep in complete uncertainty and woke up to literally a bright sun shining!
So, hold fast my friends to God’s word, hold tight knowing how much He cares for you! He is in every detail, from our individual battles….to the sun rising every morning….and everything in between! For our help comes from the Lord, the maker of Heaven and earth!
Not one of the good promises which the Lord had made to the house of Israel failed; all came to pass.
And being fully assured that what God had promised, He was able also to perform.
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promises is faithful.
Little victories lead to grander ones, which can change the course of our lives! Let us take heart in the battles both big and small that we are observing God winning! The smaller triumphs are never insignificant. They may be leading us to unimaginable victories over evil. Let’s stay the course remembering that all our tomorrows bring new mercies!
It’s been said, “Victory belongs to those who believe in it the most, and believe in it the longest!” I pray we can all keep those words in mind in the days to come, and we will someday soon wake up to all of this world’s nonsense behind us! So, tomorrow morning may we all look to the sky in all its radiance and thank our Heavenly Father for this new day that He has made, and let us rejoice and be glad!
Delighting in safe pasture,
